The Mustard Seed is a Christian-based preschool located in a remote village
(no plumbing or electric) outside of the capital city, Lilongwe, on the African continent. The school is registered as a 501c3 non-profit organization as of 2017, with a US Board of Directors.
Janice Lee’s daughter, Angela Quashigah, is the school’s director. She graduated from Central Washington University, volunteered on the floating hospital ship Mercy Africa, graduated with a Master’s Degree in International Development from the University of Florida which required a two-week, field-work trip to Botswanna, and then landed in Malawi through the Peace Corp, finishing in 2016.
Through these experiences, she knew she wanted to do something independent of any organized program already in place. In starting up the Mustard Seed, Angela strived to integrate education, christian lessons, and medical care for students while allowing their village culture to stay intact. The people of Hawley United Methodist Church are honored to continue to support the ongoing ministry of Angela Quashigah and the Mustard Seed Malawi school.

Dear HUMC Friends,
Please keep our Honduras Mission team in prayer! They will be leaving on their mission trip on October 31st and returning on November 7th, 2024.
Let us pray:
Prayer for Our Honduras Missionaries
Gracious God, we lift up to you our brothers and sisters from Hawley UMC who are journeying to Honduras. We ask for your protection, that you would guard their travels, guide their steps, and keep them safe under your care. Fill them with strength, compassion, and the joy of sharing your love with those they meet. May their hearts be open, their hands be willing, and their spirits be steadfast in the work they do. Empower them to serve as vessels of your grace, bringing hope and encouragement to all. Surround them with your peace and bring them home safely, enriched by the blessings of this journey.
We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Hawley UMC Care Team
The Hawley UMC Care Team is a lay-ministry made up of individuals who commit themselves to the service of other members and friends, expressing concern and care for one another during times of illness, grief and other stressors, as well as times of celebration and joy.
